On Thursday I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand. It's been hard to learn to use my left hand when I'm so used to doing everything with the other. Each day is getting better & I'm able to use my fingers (which is how I'm typing), but lifting is still tough right now. So in every hard time, perspective comes into play that always puts me in my place.
My dad and Virginia came down and got here on Wednesday night so they could spend a few days helping us out & taking care of Ashlyn while I recover. Things went really well till Friday around noon. I was in trying to get myself ready when I heard Ashlyn crying like never before and Virginia yelling out. She was almost to the bottom landing of our stairs when her right foot slipped and the left one didn't follow suit. It probably made the fall worse because she was holding the baby and made sure she didn't fall too. We called 911 and they were here in a matter of minutes. Luckily there is a fire dept. just blocks away. Because we live at least 35 minutes from a hospital and her foot was not getting circulation, they decided to call in the helicopter & fly her into Phoenix where an Ortho surgeon would be working. Derek took Ashlyn (who was completely fine) in our car, I rode
with my dad in his car, and we were all off for a long afternoon in the
hospital emergency room. Of course it wasn't one of the many newer & nicer building around. She was taken to an incredibly ghetto hospital in downtown Phoenix where several prisoners were also taken and escorted by cops everywhere. It was quite an experience all around. Poor Virginia came to help us with a very minor thing and left in a much worse situation. She ended up braking her leg & ankle in several places as well as dislocating her ankle. When her leg was stablized, they opted just to start driving home that night and will see an ortho in UT this week. What a crazy, freaky thing!
We're looking on the bright side though......Ashlyn must have been constipated because she hadn't pooped in over 2 days. Literally the fall scared it right out of her 'cause she had three dirty diapers by the end of that day!

What an exciting weekend and at least Ashlyn isn't constipated anymore. Can't wait to see you when you come up!
I can't believe that happened to poor Virginia! What an awful ordeal and I'm sure you felt terrible. I'm just glad Ashlyn wasn't harmed. I hope Virginia will recover quickly - at least she's off for the summer (assuming she still teaches). I hope you heal quickly and all goes well with your carpal tunnel, too.
That is crazy! I hope that Virginia heels quickly. I guess I won't say "Not much going on here". You and Jodi have proved a good theory!!! Take care.
