Adventures in Maui

At the beginning of August, we decided and booked the trip to leave just a few weeks later. Turned out it was the same price if we left then as it would be to go in December, so why not? I think Derek's goal really was to be there over my birthday & I suppose I can't complain about that! After all, turning 28 again was a big deal (tee, hee).

We really didn't want to be away from Ashlyn that long, so we knew we wanted to bring her with. We were able to twist my mom's arm enough so she got work off to come along. It was fun to show her something new and we had a built in babysitter.

This was the second time Derek and I had been to Maui together. We love it there and really wanted to go back.

Lesson Learned: You can't recreate old memories, you can only live to create new ones.

We like to collect wood carvings from the islands. When we were there 5 years earlier, we met a carver named Tasini who turned out to be a member of the LDS church. We tracked him down, which was not so easy, and met he & his wife again. We got a beautiful carved turtle from him. May sound silly, but we love it.

Ashlyn LOVED making sand castles at the beach and reenacting the emcee at the aquarium. I hope it was a good experience for my mom. We were grateful to have her there and that we could all enjoy our time snorkeling, etc... Oh, it kinda stunk to have to come home & back to reality.
