Derek and I have been taking a marriage strengthening class provided through the Church by the stake. Friday will be our last class of the 7 week course. It has been awesome! Mostly because we have had that designated time together for a date night. We've really enjoyed the teachers & learning more about each other. We noticed how good it has been for us and why we are urged to have a weekly date night. It really has brought us closer together in such a short amount of time. I highly recommend it - if not the class, then making date time a priority!
Ashlyn's never been one to fall asleep anywhere, she'll keep going & going till she is in her bed. We were surprised one day when we found this in the middle of the floor.
It's almost been two weeks now since Little Miss Ashlyn graduated from crib to "big girl" bed. It still has the guard rail on it 'cause heaven knows she's such a wild sleeper. She loves being able to climb in and out. The problem is that she's having a much harder time going to sleep. We used to be able to just lay her in the crib & walk away - no crying or protesting. I was so proud of that.
Yah .... not so much anymore. It's taking her forever to fall asleep - around 45min. each for naptime & bedtime. She's not quite getting the concept of "stay in bed" yet, and sitting on the floor till she falls asleep is getting really old for me. I've started just shutting her in there till she gets tired enough and falls asleep which seemed to work for nap today. Hopefully we're progressing. Otherwise, she may one day be the only first grader still in a crib!
Being a former Early Intervention employee, I am always worried about missing delays in my own children. Derek mentioned a while ago that he thought Ash should be talking more. I kept up on my babycenter.com reports and didn't think much of it. The last while though I've started to notice too. She talks, but not tons of understandable words. She's not really putting two word phrases together. Lots of jabber & gestures. She communicates really well, just not always in verbal words. Figured there was no harm in having her evaluated just to see (since it is free & they come to your home). Sure enough they say there is a delay. I think I honestly expected them to say I was being a bit paranoid. She may or may not be starting speech therapy sessions. We're waiting to hear back from the program and for us to decide what we want to do. But now that we've started the whole eval. process, we're suddenly noticing her picking up on more & more words and are not as worried as we were even a couple weeks ago. Maybe she's catching up and having a language spurt like they talked about. Kinda wishing I wouldn't have called in the first place & waited it out a bit longer. We'll see what happens & keep you posted.
This is Ashlyn & her friend Olivia. They set up the table & chairs outside then told me they needed snacks. I'm getting used the to fact that my own identity is gone & I will from here on out be known as "Ashlyn's Mommy".
Sunday was a day of big changes in our ward. Derek was released as Ward Building Coordinator and was sustained as 2nd Counselor in the Sunday School Presidency. This will be a good change for him & we're both excited about it. I have been serving as a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency for the past year and a half or so. It has been really great, a bit draining, and I've been so blessed to get to know the sisters & grow my testimony of the Relief Society. I had been in Primary before that & hadn't really had the opportunity to appreciate it. Our Presidency was released and we were able to sustain a new RS Presidency. Although I'll miss it & working closely with women that have become friends, I am so excited for this new Presidency - they will be awesome! And I'm happy to be able to spend more time with my family.
Think that's about it for now. Hope you have a Great Day!

I am SO enjoying my new "calling" . . . I hope you're enjoying yours, too!
Sounds like you have had an eventful few months and Happy late Birthday to Ashlyn and thanks for the Valentine cards!
WOW - lots of changes!! Happy Birthday Ashlyn! She is a doll!! I never knew you used to work with Early Intervention. That's pretty awesome! If you are ever in search of a speech therapist, Lori Munoz is amazing!! She sees Carter and he LOVES her.... sometimes out of the blue, even asks when she's coming to play. I've always imagined the Strengthening Marriage class would be moving...Sounds like it's great!! And for the record, I enjoy keeping up on your blog - so thanks!!
