Nothin' Much 'Round These Parts

So I was trying to think of something exciting or new going on with us, but there just isn't much right now. Same ol' stuff. Last week was fun....I know I'm behind on posting. It was my birthday on Labor Day. Derek had the day off and we were able to spend it all as a little family.

I got to sleep in (yay!) and when I finally woke up around 8:45, Derek said I had to go check out the mess that Ashlyn had made in her crib. Expecting to have a load of laundry, I wasn't too enthusiastic about it. Well there spread across her blanket were 4 books from Deseret Book. I love to collect books, getting me to read them entirely through is another story :) Anyway, I am completely spoiled & grateful for such a loving husband. The best is that he gave me a gift certificate to get a couple massages which I can hardly wait to use!

Ashlyn's new thing is putting her feet up on the tray and chillin' every time she's in her stroller.
The girl know's how to relax!
Since we're coming up on the year mark of our move to AZ (holy moly - that flew by!), I wanted to go to Tucson to check it out since it's only an hour and a half away & we've never ventured there. We went to lunch at the Olive Garden (of course!) and then walked through the mall for a while. There is this place in the middle of the city somewhere called "Trail Dust Town". Not quite knowing what to expect, we wanted to check it out. A little disappointing, but still fun to see. It was like Gardner Village, only wild west style. I was taking pictures of Derek as he was "shooting" in the bar. I was so proud of him for hitting things over and over again and making all the lights and sounds go off.......Then we figured out that every time I took a picture and the flash went off, everything would burst into action. That kept us amused for a while.

Most the shops were closed for the holiday, but they put on this little action/adventure show that was fun to watch. Probably would have been more enjoyable if we hadn't have taken a 7 mo old that cried every time the guns would go off. Just as I was taking Ashlyn out, the show ended. We're slowly learning that with this parenting thing we're not able to do or enjoy things like we used to (duh....I know).

Oops...it's on the side, but you get the idea...

On Saturday we hired our first official babysitter for Ashlyn while Derek and I went to see The Dark Knight. When in the world did the matinee price for an Imax show start costing $10???? Maybe it's just that theater, but still.....ridiculous! I do have to admit that it was almost worth the price - excellent movie, though quite violent and Dark (ha,ha). Ashlyn did great and Mary (a girl in our ward) seems really good. We're hiring her again for Ward Temple Night this Saturday.

Happy Belated Birthday to you, too! Looks like you had a great day. You're lucky you have such a great hubby. Chalk one up for him. :o)

You guys are soo good. We still have yet to "hire" a babysitter and our kids are 4 and 2, way to expensive for us (it would cost the same amount as the actual date!). I should be better about it, perhaps the next temple night but then again do I trust any of the young woman in the ward?

I am still waiting for Jared to say that he is going to Tucson soon so I can travel along and crash at your house, but there has been absolutely no talk yet.

I love your pictures from Tucson!! I do the same thing. Go to new places and eat at the same restaurants. Go Olive Garden! I'm glad you guys had a good time and you got to enjoy the day. :) Ton
