I know it's only our second summer here in Arizona, but I don't think I'll ever get used to the heat. Now, thanks to Dad & Virginia's birthday gift to Derek, we have a digital clock that let's us know exactly what the temperature is.
118 degrees..............'nough said.
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS Rachel & Brandt on your sweet new baby boy!!!
The 4th of July kinda stunk here. Several of the cities cancelled their big firework shows because of budget cuts. We couldn't buy fireworks to set off in our driveway because of the dry fire danger. The only thing available in stores were the Pops. One perk is that we didn't waste money - it just takes away from everything I remember & the traditions I'd like to see my kids have. Although Derek doesn't understand it, I've vowed to spend next 4th of July in Gunnison, watching the parade, and going to the festivities......that's what helps bring out the patriotic spirit for me (anyone from Gunnison Valley will get it!) Watching fireworks on TV just didn't have the same effect.
Ashlyn and I spent last week visiting in Utah. As always, I never have enough time to do all that I plan or see everyone I'd like. I guess I could plan to stay longer, but Derek & I have a hard time being away from each other for much more than a week. I guess that's not a bad thing. It just means that I have to make visits short and sweet (and more often- tee, hee).
Ash and I flew out on Monday the 6th. The flight was not full so Ashlyn got her own seat & that made a world of difference - what a nice flight! Derek's mom picked us up from the airport & we stayed at their house that night. Thanks again!
Tuesday was Maren's wedding in Fayette. She is my step-sister, I guess. It is weird to say that since we didn't grow up together, but it's the simplest explanation. It went well, she looked beautiful, and he couldn't keep his eyes off her.....it was very cute.
Best Wishes Matt & Maren on your new life together!
Thanks to Dad & Virginia for watching the younger girls, Mariah and I got to take Taylor and have a girl's day at the mall. It was so much fun. Taylor's getting so big & was such a great help with the little girls that we took her to Build-a-Bear and then the three of us pampered ourselves with pedicures. I don't think Mariah & I relaxed and enjoyed it much 'cause we were so entertained by watching Taylor's reactions to what was going on.
I don't know where the week went, but between visiting family, having some girl time with my sister, the Ute Stampede Rodeo (a family tradition), celebrating niece's birthdays, meeting baby Chase & chatting with Rachel & Tonya, and of course lots of late nights ---the trip was over before I knew it.
Here's a few pics of what we were up to:
The Family at the Rodeo....YeeHaw!
Ashlyn with her Grandma & Grandpa James.
She spent most the night sitting on my Dad's lap & watching the animals.
Ashlyn, Brentlee, KaraLee, Taylor, & Jazlyn.
We attempted to get a good photo of the five little girls together. Ashlyn decided to have her first major meltdown at that very moment - she didn't want any part of it. I'm not exactly looking forward to this new toddler-throwing-fits stage.
Thanks, Celicia, for getting the outfits and making the darling bows & bracelets. We really appreciate all you did!

Jazlyn & Ashlyn getting cozy & spoiled by Grandma Vonnie.
Our flight home kept getting delayed so we had lots of time to wander around the airport. This kiddie play area is great! Though Ashlyn kept trying to escape and run the lawnmower popping down the breezeway to the gates.
I have to say a special "Thank You" to my sister. I've had so much fun getting to know you more as a friend this past year and a half. You are so strong (more than you know) and have been such an inspiration & example to me through your trials. Going through all you have & never complaining - I think you're just awesome. You're a great mother, friend, and the best sister I could ever ask for.
Since I know I won't be on top of it enough to post again next week, I'm going to wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love you and appreciate you always being there for me.
Thanks for checkin' in and Have a very Happy Day!

Looks like you had a packed week. Wish we could've seen you but hey we know how it goes.
You were up late last night!!!
Have you heard of Bountiful Baskets? I love it...fresh fruits and vegetables for a super cheap price. Don't know if Derek would eat any of it but it is fantastic. Check out the website...www.bountifulbaskets.org. Or check out my posts about it.
My goodness! Looks like you had a fun-filled trip packed with some really good times. I'm sure it was nice to come "home," and visit. You'll have to let me know one of these times when you're coming to Utah. I'd love it if Ashlyn and Mark could meet. If you can squeeze it in, that is. :o)
Don't you love those toddler fits? Just wait. There's more to come!
It looks like you guys had a fun visit!!! I love the picture with all the girls in matching clothes. Too cute!!! It was good to see you at the wedding - although it was pretty brief! Good luck with the heat. It is getting pretty unbearable here too!
Looks like you had such a great time. And I know how you feel about going "home" for the 4th. We went over on the 3rd for fireworks. It always makes me want to move back home. I love that place!!!
